Psychotherapy and Counselling

MSC (PCP), BSC (OT), Cert Ed

Hello. Thank you for visiting my site.

If you are considering therapy for a particular issue then I believe I will be able to help you. You've already taken the first step, it takes courage to seek help.

I can offer a safe space to explore any issues which may be troubling you and support you to find the best way forward for You.

People seek therapy for many different reasons; it may be to work on a historical issue such as childhood trauma and abuse, in response to a current stressor such as work or relationship problems, or it may be simply to explore your own experience of yourself and your world and the relationships within it, in order to gain deeper self awareness and self understanding.

If you wish to have an informal chat about how I may be able to help you I am here for You. Please contact me by one of the methods on the Contact page to set up a free initial consultation and we'll take it from there.

A little about counselling

A counselling session should be a relaxing and comfortable experience in a calming environment. You are free to talk about any issues that are concerning you and everything will be held in total confidence with absolutely no judgement. The therapist is there to help and support you.

The particular form of therapy I practice is called 'Person Centred' which I believe is the most relevant and effective style because as the name suggests it focuses completely on the individual.

Face to face sessions are the traditional form of therapy but I am also now able to offer telephone sessions or sessions over Zoom with weekend and evening appointments available at no extra cost.

About me

I am a Person Centred Experiential Psychotherapist who trained with the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute.

I have 30 years experience working in the NHS, Education and Voluntary sectors - these roles have brought me into close contact with many individuals of all ages and from all walks of life.

It has been my privilege to work closely with people facing deep challenges with regard to their physical, mental and emotional health, or with their physical or social environment. I consider it an honour to be placed in this position of trust, and I am inspired every day by the people I work with.

In my own life I have been on my own journey and faced my own challenges - both personally as an individual and from the perspective of being the close relative or friend of the person dealing with these issues. I believe this has allowed me to truly empathise with those who are in a dark place, and through doing this work for myself on such a personal level, I have fostered my belief in the real possibility of post traumatic growth.

As a person centred therapist, my focus will always centre on you as a person, and on what you need from your therapy sessions. I place a great deal of importance on the therapeutic relationship, and I want you to feel safe, and comfortable to express what you need and how you feel. I value feedback and will always do all I can to respond to your individual needs.

I like to offer creative approaches to self expression and self exploration, and I have materials available to incorporate art, craftwork, creative writing and journalling into your therapeutic journey if this is something you would like to include.
